Now; as I've played through Riders of Icarus, leveling up my third character before the next big patch becomes live - I've considered several things. Those two things have been stables for my familiars, and perhaps even a gallery or resting area for my pets. Of course at first these sound like purely cosmetic ideas that would serve no true purpose in the game -- however, I hope that with my explanations, people could see how useful this would be. (I'll leave a TLDR at the bottom of my post.)

Lets start with Stables.
Perhaps your familiar has run out of stamina and you're out of potions. Or maybe your pet died in battle and you don't have a way to revive them. This is where a stable would come into play. As we all know, both mounts and pets take up slots on our sort of magic familiar box - and when all of our slots are full, we can no longer tame familiars that are in the wild or carry any pets. This can be remedied by buying more slots with Elluns, but at the same time, it could prove more beneficial to the player to save their Elluns for resurrecting during battle, naming their pets, summoning party members, or just buying costumes and other items. In the future, as seen in this dev blog, Familiar Farms will become a thing. This is where I believe that Stables, and furthermore, a Pet Gallery, could come into place to give more incentive for players to use their Familiar Farm.

What would happen in your stable?
- If a familiar is low on health or stamina, it would regenerate at a more rapid rate than when carried with you.
- A familiar in the stable would not take up a familiar slot, as they are instanced elsewhere.
- A familiar could possibly still gain levels while in the stable, though over a longer period than when you are passively riding them.
- Daily, or repeatable, quests could be given out in random order for the player to perform - giving them familiar rewards (unique saddles, soul stones, claws, etc) for their companion. This in turn would make the bond between Rider and Familiar feel more genuine, as during these quests your familiar could get a passive experience boost as long as they were within the quest area. (E: You receive a quest to kill 15 Wild Hogs with your dragon, your dragon has a breath ability that roasts the hogs and must be used for the experience boost to take place.)
- You could see NPCs interacting with your familiar, feeding them, etc. (Purely cosmetic of course.)

Now that all sounds nice of course, but I don't think if it was ever to be implemented, that it should be an entirely free thing. Consider the Stable as a familiar auction house. No, you don't get to buy a familiar - but you're 'placing' them onto the 'Stable' for an amount of time - lets just say for 7 days it would require a tax to house and care for your silver. This could be a random price just like releasing a familiar would, depending majorly on level.

Lets finish up with the Pet Gallery.

The pet gallery would be a place found either with the stable in an instanced zone, or in the capital in the Market District. There, just like the stable, you could put away a pet for a set number of days - including a random tax cost, thus making it so your pet did not take up one of your familiar slots. As is with the stable, if a pet is in the gallery, it would regenerate both stamina and health much faster than when carried with you. It could also passively gain levels at a slowed down rate, while you could also receive random daily or repeatable quests. Off the top of my head I can think of one quest that would make sense, but would depend on what species your familiar is. Say, you have a carnivore for a pet, you would be able to go out and kill a certain animal (Stag, Boar, etc) to get meat for your familiar and feed it. This could give it a chance to learn passive abilities, levels, or just have a small exp boost for awhile.

At the pet gallery you would be able to purchase pet related items, sometimes. When an item of this sort would appear, it would come in limited stock and be expensive - such as a pet scroll, familiar armor, etc. Otherwise you could buy low tier stamina and health potions from the gallery keeper at all times.

TL,DR: An instanced zone for pets and familiars that allows them to no longer take up familiar slots. Could give passive buffs, levels, etc to pet\familiar and repeatable dailies for the player to do cosmetic things for some coin.
